Kim Labay's pieces are a conversation between two artists. The inspiration comes from a found, given, or purchased object and the structure is Kim's talent, in accenting and highlighting the given piece. It all started with two peacock panels that had been given to him by a friend. Drawing upon his twelve years experience in commercial carpentry, he decided to make a piece of cabinetry to house and highlight the twin pieces. This idea turned creation started it all and he has been making art filled cabinets ever since. From Motawi tiles to Caribbean oil drum art, Kim experiments with colors, stains and carvings to turn these two distinct objects into one unit, one voice.
When asked about his art he replies, "I've waited all my life for the right thing to do, and here it is."
