These encaustic creations begin by using many of the old world techniques. Beeswax and damar resin, a renewable resource, form the base for these creations. Highly pigmented and saturated colors are added in layers, each fused separately to the layer before, building up texture and interest. Many of these artworks are created on custom made, cradled wood panels, which eliminate the need for framing. Original drawings, sketches, incised lines, and other elements are often encased within the wax layers. Worn and discarded hymn and text pages take on new life when included within the artworks.
Beyond Letters is the original work of award-winning artists Patti Monroe-Mohrenweiser and Mark Mohrenweiser. They use a variety of mixed media techniques in creating our artworks. They love creating, and their experimentation and discovery of new materials is unending.
