- Made in Detroit
Today, Pewabic is Michigan's only historic pottery and was the first woman owned arts and crafts studio in Detroit. Established in 1904 by artist Mary Chase Perry, the name “Pewabic,”originates from the Native American word and the name of the copper mine in Perry's hometown of Hancock, MI. Ceramics by Perry are some of the first products stocked and sold through Detroit’s Arts and Crafts Gallery, which was the organization that later founded the College for Creative Studies. Pewabic continues to be a relevant part of the Detroit arts and crafts community, producing beautiful, high quality work to this day.
