The end of February has us itching for warmer weather and sunnier days. Michigan likes to tease us with hints of spring here and there. At The Artisan's Bench, we're ready for every season. Even if Spring comes later than we want it to.
As we prepare for this season of awakening, we use these slow days wisely. Our staff takes spring cleaning to a whole new level. It may not look like it to the untrained eye, but our shelves are dust free, the wood is refreshed and our backstock is organized like it's never been before!
We rearrange, and rearrange again, and might even rearrange once again! We like to keep the store fresh. Bringing in new artwork, moving around old pieces. Making it feel bright and full of life. For example, an artist I would love to highlight is a local Michigan native, Jennifer Kraska.
Jennifer creates incredible one of a kind watercolor paintings. Each piece is entirely unique. Her work is inspiring. What starts as a simple outline in pencil, turns into works of art that practically come alive off her pages. She keeps her sketches partly visible as an homage to her professional background. It’s so amazing to see the artistic tension between the draftwork and the painting.
A little more about Jennifer, she is trained in Industrial Design and is a professional car designer. Jennifer explores birds and animals that are often considered ordinary, bringing out details often overlooked and capturing candid moments. Each piece is a balance of focused details, vibrant colors and layers of texture.
You can find her work and so many other talented artists' work showcased in our store and on our website. I will keep you updated on all our artists and their intricate processes of how they design their work. Each artist in our shop is very dear to us, any chance we get to talk about them and enlighten others in the process of their designs makes us extremely happy. If you would ever like more information about an artist in our shop, never hesitate to reach out!
Bye for now,
McKenna
